Voters in Watford will today go to the polls to elect the town's new mayor along with a councillor in their ward.

The role of mayor is the most important political position in the town and three are three candidates vying for your vote.

Liberal Democrat candidate and serving mayor Peter Taylor is being challenged by Labour candidate Cllr Asif Khan and Conservative hopeful Binita Mehta-Parmar.

There are also 12 seats in each of Watford's 12 wards to be determined.

Polling stations will be open until 10pm on Thursday (May 5) but we won't know the outcome of any of the elections until the following day (Friday May 6).

Watford Borough Council has confirmed the count will be taking place at Watford Colosseum.

The results of the mayoral election are expected around lunchtime while the council seat results will be announced in the afternoon.

All results are expected to have been announced by 5pm.

An election will also be taking place in Three Rivers district which the Observer is also set to be providing live coverage from.

Results from Three Rivers are also expected on Friday.
