A woman was allegedly assaulted on the A414 carriageway before a man was charged with assault, theft and dangerous driving.
A man and woman were reportedly travelling in a white Audi between Hatfield and St Albans at around midnight on Sunday, May 1, when the woman exited the vehicle.
She was then allegedly assaulted on the carriageway before flagging a passing vehicle and fleeing the area.
Detective Constable Georgia Taylor, who is investigating, said the woman is receiving support from specialist officers.
Ben Weston, 37, from By The Mount in Welwyn Garden City, has been charged with assault ABH, theft and dangerous driving.
He appeared at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Monday, May 2, where he was remanded into custody to appear before St Albans Crown Court on a date to be set.
DC Taylor urged any witnesses to come forward – particularly the driver of a red vehicle who reportedly stopped and attempted to intervene.
