A bid for step-free access at a train station has received a boost.

Currently, it is difficult for disabled people or those with pushchairs or luggage to reach platforms at Bushey station.

There have been calls to improve access and Network Rail will now be putting the station forward for the Government's Access for All funding scheme, according to the Watford Liberal Democrats.

Kennedy Rodrigues, who was elected as a councillor in the Oxhey ward this week, said: "Making sure our public transport is accessible is important in ensuring our town can serve everyone in a more affordable and greener way.

"If we could secure step-free access at Bushey station this would be a huge step in the right direction."

Peter Taylor, who has been re-elected as Watford's mayor, added: "We have recently published our sustainable transport strategy which underpins how we hope public transport will evolve for our local community and reduce congestion in our town.

"Securing better public transport, including making trains and buses more affordable and accessible for everyone is a top priority for us."
