Scots Hill in Croxley Green back open after roadworks

Scots Hill was shut from Rickmansworth towards Croxley Green because of emergency repairs.

The road was back open in both directions by yesterday evening (May 11).

It had been closed since Sunday after a water main burst, leaving some homes temporarily without water.

Affinity Water says it had to undertake a "complex repair" which required digging into Scots Hill, near Rickmansworth School, resulting in all access being blocked for drivers heading up the hill to Croxley Green.

It also impacted on a number of bus routes.

Scots Hill remained open for motorists going the other way to Rickmansworth.

Affinity Water said the "complexity" and "significance" of the repairs meanr the road would take a little longer than expected to reopen.

But the water supplier was able to meet a permit deadline of Wednesday May 11 set by Hertfordshire County Council

A spokesperson said on Wednesday morning: “The final reinstatement works are taking place today.

"We expect the road to be cleared this evening due to the tarmac requiring a good few hours to dry. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The closure caused significant traffic disruption in the Croxley Green area, while Tolpits Lane, Hampermill Lane, and Moor Lane towards Watford have all been much slower than usual this week as drivers divert.

These queues should all have eased now Scots Hill has reopened.
