A pair of councils have each appointed a new chairman to preside over meetings and represent the council at public engagements.

Meriden ward councillor Amanda Grimston has been promoted into the civic role at Watford Borough Council while Debbie Morris has been given the chains at Three Rivers District Council.

Watford-born Cllr Grimston is a member of the Liberal Democrat party and has been a councillor for more than ten years.

The mother-of-two has worked as a district nurse for the NHS locally and is passionate about helping people and supporting those struggling, whether it be end of life or mental health.

After being appointed in her new role at an annual council meeting on May 24, Cllr Grimston said: “It is a privilege to have been elected as chairman of Watford Borough Council, especially during its centenary year.

“I am proud to represent the town of Watford and I will work with my fellow councillors, the whole community and my chosen charities to advocate and highlight the very best of Watford. It’s a town that is inclusive, tolerant and caring for all its residents."

In Three Rivers, Conservative councillor Debbie Morris has taken on the role of council chairman, replacing Lib Dem councillor Keith Martin.

The Moor Park & Eastbury ward councillor said: “I am honoured to have been elected chairman of the district council, taking the reins from Cllr Martin, who served the council and the district so well during his tenure, when the council’s activities were greatly curtailed by the Covid pandemic.

“I look forward with enormous enthusiasm to the year ahead – to working with many people and organisations across this district, and to representing the council with great pride."
