A school catering company for a secondary school was rated 1/5 in a food hygiene inspection.

Queens’ School in Bushey has been using Cucina, a catering business by Impact Food Group, to make school meals for students.

However food hygiene inspectors visited the school on April 22 this year and found that Cucina required “major improvement” overall.

Specifically, it was the management of food safety that needed “major improvement”.

This involves having a system or check in place to ensure that food served is safe to eat and staff know food safety.

The food safety officer must also have confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

The hygienic food handling – including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage – needed necessary “improvement”.

While the cleanliness and condition of the facilities was found to be “generally satisfactory”.

A spokesperson from Impact Food Group said: "We were very disappointed to receive the low rating as it is not reflective of the standards we expect, where food safety and hygiene is of paramount importance."

The catering group explained this is the only one star rating across the many places it operates and "urgent remedial action was taken".

"The kitchen team have undergone full retraining by our group health & safety manager and a new chef manager is in place to ensure best practices are being consistently upheld," said the group.

An audit was conducted last week and it has already applied for a re-rating.
