The front door window of a house was smashed in a burglary as the homeowner was asleep.

Police are appealing for information after the break in at St James Road, Watford, on May 24.

After entering through the smashed window at 11pm, the burglar opened a drawer in the downstairs room and went upstairs to find the owner asleep.

The burglar then fled downstairs, grabbed a handbag and ran out.

Detective Constable Julie Vint, who is investigating, said: “This was a frightening ordeal and we are doing everything we can to trace the offender.

“They are described as a white male and were wearing dark clothing and a ski mask.”

It is hoped that anyone living near the house could have doorbell camera footage that could help with enquiries.
