A developer has submitted an appeal after its plan for an affordable housing development was rejected by Three Rivers District Council.

The council said the proposal off Church Lane in Sarratt would be "inappropriate" development in the green belt and of "significant detriment" to an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Applicant Clovercourt (Sarratt) said its scheme for up to 20 homes would help towards addressing the “significant shortfall” in housing delivery and Three Rivers.

The developer also argued its plans would help towards meeting the “chronic” shortfall in affordable homes.

The plans drew 26 objections from residents and the council failed to support the proposal either, refusing to grant outline planning permission in April.

Clovercourt has since appealed that decision with a Government-appointed planning inspector, who could choose to override the council or dismiss the appeal.

The appeal process began in late May with public comments invited until July 1 via the planning appeals website.

The seven-digit case reference number is 3291193.
