A man has been sentenced after he destroyed a £2,000 window at a popular restaurant.

Nathan Briggs, of Northway in Rickmansworth, had been charged with destroying the front window of Indian eatery Rasal in High Street in April 2020.

He had denied the criminal damage charge two months later but following a hearing last week it was proved in his absence.

St Albans Magistrates’ Court had issued an arrest warrant for the 48-year-old but on July 8 that was withdrawn and he was ordered to pay £2,276 compensation.

He was also fined £180.

The Rickmansworth restaurant has over 100 excellent and very good reviews on TripAdvisor with one of the most recent describing it as “really busy and buzzy”.

A Watford man is set to go on trial after being charged with theft by finding and fraud.

Gary Simpson, 42, of Hatfield Road, is alleged to have stolen a credit card before using it to gain £200.

He appeared at St Albans Magistrates’ Court last week following which he was granted unconditional bail ahead of a trial – which has been scheduled for October 25 this year.
