A company has been fined £40,000 for breaching health and safety regulations while working in Hertfordshire.

Barote Construction Ltd has been slapped with the fine after pleading guilty to the charge which related to work in Grange Road, Bushey, between March and May last year.

According to court documents, the Stanmore-based company “did not take all practicable steps where necessary to prevent danger to any person, to ensure that any new or existing structure does not collapse if due to the carrying out of construction work it may become unstable or is in a temporary state of weakness whereby you are guilty of an offence”.

The charge appears to have stemmed from work taking place at a residential property. The Health and Safety Executive has been contacted for more details.

As well as the hefty fine, Barote Construction was also ordered to pay £686.30 costs and a £190 victim services surcharge – taking the total to £40,876.30.

It has been given until July 2025 to pay the money.
