I know that thousands of local residents recently enjoyed the Elton John concerts at Vicarage Road.

These were memorable events and it was wonderful to hear Sir Elton talk about his love for the town and football club.

I am really pleased that we were able to work with the county council, Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst on the new mural at Watford Central Library, that the talented team at MurWalls kindly gifted to the town.

Having been out and about in Watford this week, there is one thing that everyone is talking about – the current heatwave.

For some, it can’t get hot enough and they relish the warm days and evenings, for others it just isn’t for them and they think longingly of cooler days ahead.

One thing we can all agree on though is that summer is here and, Watford is a brilliant place to spend the summer with so much going on.  This year, more than ever, the range of free events and things to do, particularly for our families, is so important.

This week, I chaired a really important meeting with some amazing groups and organisations who are on the frontline of supporting people who are already experiencing the impact of the cost of living crisis.

Just as we did during the Covid pandemic, the town is looking to work together and provide the practical support that can really make a difference.

There is no easy solution to rising prices but a town that unites to help each other, and those in most need, is something I am really proud that Watford does so well.

So, offering a great range of free ways to spend the summer, is just one way Watford stands out.

I know thousands of people will be enjoying the great weather in our parks and open spaces and our wonderful, free paddling and splash pools in Cassiobury Park are set to be busy over the coming weeks.

On Saturday 16 July our high street will come alive with free street performances all day as the Imagine Watford festival returns.

The Big Beach will be back from 25 July – 7 August and is the perfect chance for people of all ages to lap up the summer sun.

From 8 – 21 August the Big Screen will be showing some great films at Knutsford Playing Fields and Woodside Playing Fields.

There are over 30 films to choose from, including firm family favourites and recent blockbusters.

Everything that is on in July and August is on the council’s Big Events website: www.watfordbigevents.co.uk/events

Wishing everyone a great summer however you choose to enjoy it!
