Drone footage has emerged showing how a field fire left 50 acres of farmland scorched and blackened.

The video, captured by The Drone Agent, shows firefighters damping down Tolpits Lane after the blaze that swept across the land on Saturday (August 13), coming close to the Camelot HQ and a new build housing estate.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire at around 4.30pm and people who lived near the farmland were evacuated from their homes and placed in the Tolpits Lane Community Centre.

There were no injuries recorded as firefighters were hard at work to prevent the field fire spreading to the homes and buildings.

A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed that the cause of the fire was accidental and due to weather conditions.

Only six acres of the field were alight by the time crews arrived, but it quickly spread towards the road due to the dry weather.

A change in wind direction stopped the fire from crossing the small road towards the new homes and it began to spread towards a static caravan park.
