There are long queues as shoppers and bargain hunters head to Bovingdon Market for its last ever weekend of trading.

The famous market at Bovingdon Airfield closes for good on Monday August 29 after plans to build film studios on the site were granted.

The market is hugely popular and attracts thousands of visitors from far-and-wide, with hundreds of stalls selling a wide range of goods.

But around 40 years of history is coming to an end with the penultimate day of trading falling today.

The official Bovingdon Market Facebook page posted on August 23: "The countdown has truly begun...There are just 2 dates left to shop at the Market. It's never too early to start your Christmas shopping. See you this weekend for BARGAINS!"

Unsurprisingly, the Wendy Fair-run market is attracting huge crowds with a long line of drivers waiting to get into the site’s car park this morning.

Box Lane and Chesham Road, from Hemel Hempstead towards the market, were both at a standstill as of 9.45am, with the market opening its doors at 9am.

Residents and business owners told the Observer in the spring that shutting down the market will bring an end to “nightmare” traffic jams in Bovingdon.

The market is open today from 9am until 4pm, and back again on Bank Holiday Monday from 9am before pulling down the shutters for the final time in Bovingdon at 4pm.

Organisers hope to find a new location for the market, but according to the latest post published on Bovingdon Market’s official Facebook page, there are “no updates on the new location yet”.
