Four high-end cars were stolen overnight in Bushey – sparking police to increase local night-time patrols.

A black Mercedes and BMW were taken outside two separate homes in Coldharbour Lane last night (September 22 to 23).

A BMW was also stolen from a driveway in Merry Hill Road and a blue BMW was taken from outside a home in Wren Crescent.

Hertsmere Inspector Rachael Robertson said the county is seeing a spike in vehicle thefts and in Hertsmere high-value keyless cars are being targeted.

Following the latest thefts, night-time police patrols are being upped and officers will be conducting specific operations.

In a warning to owners, she added: “These thieves use signal jacking devices, which pick up the car’s fob key signal from inside the home, so that they can unlock and start the car.

“Using a signal blocking fob pouch (such as a Faraday Bag) or storing your fob in a metal box will help prevent the signal from being detected.”

Motorists can also turn off wireless signals from their fob when it is not being used and a steering wheel lock is an additional deterrent.

Reprogramming keys if you buy a second-hand keyless car is also advised.
