A burst water pipe is causing chaos for drivers.

Sarratt Road, near Croxley Green, has been closed both ways with engineers forced to dig a hole into the road to carry out emergency repairs.

The burst happened on Friday by the junction with Finches Avenue and yards from the entrance to York House School - which can still be accessed from the direction of Chandler’s Cross.

Affinity Water has been granted a permit of until Tuesday (September 27) by Hertfordshire County Council to complete the work but there is no guarantee the closure will be lifted on this date.

People living in the likes of Croxley Green and Sarratt have taken to social media to report “nightmare” traffic delays, with motorists forced to find alternative routes.

Both Solesbridge Lane and Loudwater Lane are being used as diversions, but both are narrow country lanes and the roads are said to have been brought to a “standstill” at times.

Meanwhile, there are more roadworks this weekend in Rickmansworth Road, Chorleywood.

Affinity Water is carrying out planned work by Chorleywood Cricket Club, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of tomorrow (Sunday).

The two-way traffic lights are causing lengthy queues in both directions in Rickmansworth Road.
