A new mural has been installed near the banks of a river showcasing what the area will look like once a restoration project has been completed.

The artwork has been displayed at Waterfield recreation area by the River Colne in Watford.

Created by street artists MurWalls, it forms part of Watford Borough Council’s ten-year ‘Rediscovering the River Colne’ project.

The mural depicts what the river will look like once improvements have been finished, such as lush green river banks, clean water and flourishing wildlife.

Watford mayor Peter Taylor, said: “By creating beautiful art pieces such as the new mural, we hope to attract new walkers and cyclists to the riverbank and make it a great natural space for all.

“I want to thank our delivery partner Groundwork and Hertfordshire County Council; without their input the mural would not have been possible.”

A public consultation had been held to determine the theme of the mural, with ‘nature’ selected.  

Phase 1 of the River Colne improvements will focus on the northern sites, and includes Knutsford Playing Fields, Timberlake Allotments, Radlett Road Recreation Area and Waterfield Recreation Area.
