“Hazardous” road markings are causing drivers to swerve and keeping neighbours awake at night, a councillor has claimed.
Tim Williams says a number of residents have contacted him with concerns about the state of the A405 dual carriageway between Garston and Watford.
He has accused Hertfordshire County Council of failing to prioritise repairs to “worn-out” 40mph roundels painted on the road – he says one by Aurora Close is of such depth, it is “jolting” vehicles and prompting motorists to swerve.

Cllr Williams, who has also campaigned for speed cameras along the stretch of road, said: “It's disappointing the council is not prioritising the repairs of these 40mph roundels.
“Not only because they are required to remind drivers to mind their speed, but as these worn-out roundels are so deteriorated, they are now hazards in their own right.”
The Lib Dem member added: “The vehicles going over them are also creating such a racket that nearby residents are now complaining about the lack of sleep. I will keep pursuing this matter with the council until the situation is resolved.”

Responding, highways council member Phil Bibby said officers will visit the site to inspect.
The Conservative member said: “From the picture provided to me, this looks very much like an area of delamination – where the top of the road surface has broken away to a limited depth.
“My highways team tell me that this defect has been reported twice but were regarded as low priority.
“As much as we would like to fix all faults immediately, as you would expect, we have to prioritise all our works; shallow areas of delamination, while they can look unsightly and be uncomfortable to drive on, are not always an immediate safety hazard, and may need to wait for a repair, although defects that do constitute such a hazard, under our defect management approach, are fixed promptly.”
