Residents are being asked to help shape the future of Watford town centre in a public engagement.

Watford Borough Council is looking to gather thoughts on the town centre and ideas on what should be the priority changes over the next 20 years.

The council said that given shoppers favouring online shopping over recent years, particularly since the pandemic, it is vital to implement new features to the centre beyond traditional retail shops.

Watford mayor Peter Taylor said: “We need to think beyond single sectors, such as retail and office, and towards making the town centre a hub for a range of activities and uses, for residents and visitors alike.”

Hundreds of residents were asked to share their views in a public engagement last year to shape a draft design framework.

Now further feedback can be sent online as well as during drop-in sessions on October 21 and November 4 from 11am to 2pm in the Urban Room.

Any feedback on draft proposals such as greener landscaping and improved public spaces can help make a difference in the area.

Mr Taylor continued: “Watford was one of the top 10 places in the country for retail bouncing back from the pandemic and the town is already a very successful place, with regional, national and international reach.

“We continue to see steady investment, despite the health and economic challenges of recent times. However, high streets and town centres must continue to change and adapt for a new future.

“Earlier this year, it was great to have open and honest conversations about this with residents and stakeholders, including about how Watford town centre will change over the next 20 years.

“We would again like to know your thoughts on our initial proposals following your suggestions.”

The engagement will run for six weeks until November 14. To express your thoughts online, visit: https://watfordtowncentre.commonplace.is/
