A snake has been spotted hiding underneath a car, sparking online debate over its breed.

A social media post showed what many were confident was a type of python by a vehicle in Kytes Drive, Garston, on Tuesday evening.

Several people claimed it was definitely a pet and encouraged the poster to report it to animal charities and lost pet groups.

One wrote: “It is just a normal ball python that’s got out of their enclosure and made an escape.

“They’re not aggressive – more likely to curl up and hide. It’s so cold and wet out it will be drained of energy.”

Another also said it was a ball python, adding it was not poisonous and “probably the most docile of snakes, which makes it popular as a pet”.

The poster said it escaped into the grass, and after calling the RSPCA he was told “they said because it was on the road they would not come out”.

C&T Exotics in Bovingdon has been alerted along with a local lost and found pets group.
