Air ambulance service staff have been lauded for going "the extra mile" in a glowing report.

The Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) was ranked ‘outstanding’ after two visits by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors on August 31 and September 8.

They praised the service's “exemplary” teamwork and highly-qualified staff as patients said they felt truly respected and valued as individuals.

The report published today (October 12) reads: “Feedback from people who use the service and those who were close to them was continually positive about the way staff treat people.

“People thought that staff went the extra mile and the care they received exceeded their expectations. Staff were highly motivated and inspired to offer care that was kind and promoted people’s dignity.”

According to the report, the service had strong leadership that supported staff and created a culture that promoted the “highest possible standards” of pre-hospital clinical care.

As well as being rated outstanding overall, it was also rated outstanding for being safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs, and well-led.

Ben Myer, head of clinical delivery at the EHAAT, said: “This is an amazing and truly outstanding result for the whole charity; everyone worked so hard to make the desired result a reality.

“As ever, the hard work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to strive for excellence for the patients and communities we care for, building on this result and maintaining our service as an outstanding organisation with a national and international reputation for excellence.”
