Changes could be made to a churchyard in order to make it a “great focal space” in Watford town centre.

Watford Borough Council is seeking feedback on what people think of St Mary's churchyard now and what they’d like to see.

The council says the land off High Street is the only green space in the town centre, providing “unique respite” for shoppers and visitors.

But the space is not being used to its “full potential” and has the ability to become a “more significant public space”.

Ideas for the churchyard include more seating, a play area, a food and drink kiosk and turning the space more “park-like”.

Making improvements to the churchyard is one of a number of town centre proposals put forward by the council in a public consultation.

Responses left so far have been supportive of keeping the area green but a number have highlighted the churchyard area is currently a hotspot for street drinking and drug taking.
