Nine areas of Hertfordshire have appeared on an annual list naming the top 250 places to live in England in 2023.

The cities, towns, and villages compiled by Muddy Stilettos are designed to be an insider guide to prospective housebuyers looking to relocate.

There are nine places in Hertfordshire that make the list, including Rickmansworth, Radlett, and St Albans.

Rickmansworth was hailed as a “commuter’s dream”.

Explaining the town’s nomination, Muddy Stilletos said: “It’s buzzy, it’s local, it’s surrounded by nature…and it’s also on the tube! Rickmansworth is a commuter’s dream.

“With a thriving high street, great pubs, tip top local schools, plus tonnes of green spaces and waterways to explore, Ricky (as it’s locally known) has everything you could want from a commuter town.”

St Albans, which often appears in ‘best place to live’ (and most expensive) guides’ unsurprisingly made the list as well.

The city is described in this guide for 2023 as “beautiful” adding: “It’s also bursting with great restaurants, independent shops, and a good dose of community spirit.

“This perfectly proportioned small city (it has a cathedral, don’t you know) has everything. The historic centre – all ancient religious buildings and cobbled streets – gives way to cute rows of terraces.

“And there’s a lot going on. It’s the perfect choice if you want to get out of (London), but still want a super-buzzy scene.”

Radlett, which also has some eye-wateringly high property prices, also receives a mention with the guide stating: “The rural village of Radlett packs a big punch.

“Popular with footballers and c’lebs, leafy Radlett is one of the most affluent villages in Herts.

“Add to that its proximity to some of the UK’s top schools and a 30-min commute into London and it’s a no-brainer.”

Harpenden, Berkhamsted, Welwyn Garden City, Tring, Ware, and Bishop’s Stortford were the other areas of Hertfordshire to make the top 250 list, which has been created in partnership with estate agent Strutt & Parker.

The Muddy Stilettos guide this year featured an additional 50 recommendations in comparison to their 2022 annual list and included areas from 28 counties across the UK.
