Hertfordshire County Council has pledged £100,000 of funding to ensure that warm community spaces are available this winter.

A list of warm places has also been released, as temperatures drop.

Public spaces and buildings are included in an online directory, allowing people to find libraries, family centres and community spaces to keep warm.

Included in this directory are the Red Trust at Bushey's Church House, and the Watford Salvation Army on St Albans Road.

The Red Trust is open between 9am and 12noon on Fridays, and between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays.

The Watford Salvation Army is open between 3.30pm and 6pm on Wednesdays, and between 10am and 2pm on Thursdays.

Multiple centres will also run additional activities, to provide an opportunity for individuals to meet others.

Grants of up to £2,000 have been made available per public space.

These funds are to be used for energy bills, staff time, venue hire and transport.

Councillor Richard Roberts, Leader of Hertfordshire County Council, said: "We want everyone in Hertfordshire to be able to live healthy and fulfilling lives, and I want our residents to know that we are here for you this winter.

“We all need a little support from time to time and we’re making sure that advice is available to help every resident deal with the rising cost of living and to stay well this winter, with practical help for people who need it most.

“By bringing together a directory of warm spaces where people can feel welcome, warm and safe along with information on the support available to households, I hope that we can help everyone stay safe and well this winter.”

Further winter support can be accessed via the Hertfordshire County Council website.
