Emergency services were called to an early hours crash on the M1 near Watford.

An Audi and Ford Fiesta collided on the motorway between junctions 5 and 4 at around 2.30am on Sunday, October 30 – leaving one person trapped and injured.

Police, the ambulance service and three fire crews from Watford, Borehamwood and St Albans were sent to the southbound carriageway.

A Herts Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) spokesperson said: “Firefighters stabilised the vehicles and provided medical care to the occupants until the ambulance arrived.

“One person was released from a vehicle and left in the care of the ambulance service.”

A Herts Police spokesperson confirmed both vehicles needed to be recovered and the road was cleared by around 4am.

No arrests were made but more enquiries will be carried out, they added.

It is unclear how serious the injuries were. The East of England Ambulance Service has been contacted for more details.

In a separate collision at around 8am today (October 31), HFRS sent three engines to a three-car crash between junctions 6 and 5 on the M1.

The fire service said no one was trapped but a woman was treated for injuries at the scene.
