A primary school is on the look-out for someone to fill the “rewarding” role of their school crossing patrol.

Leavesden Green Primary School in Haines Way has been without a dedicated person to help children cross the road since long-standing lollipop lady Barbara Hankin retired at the end of last year.

Efforts by Hertfordshire County Council to replace Barbara have been unsuccessful and now Woodside councillors Tim Williams and Richard Wenham are pushing to find a candidate.

Cllr Wenham said: “Barbara is a special community person in our locality and played such a valuable role by being the lollipop lady for so many years. It would be great to get the school crossing patrol re-established.”

County councillor Williams added: “Being a school crossing patrol person outside a well-respected local school is a very rewarding role and is appreciated by parents and pupils alike.

“Establishing road safety awareness for primary school children is a life skill that they carry with them.”
