The images on this page will be wonderfully evocative for some readers, while for others they will offer a fascinating glimpse into how Watford looked in the past.

These images are taken from slides that have been scanned by Jo Newman, a member of the Watford Observer’s nostalgia Facebook group ‘We Grew up in Watford’.

The pictures, showing various scenes in and around Watford in the region of 60 to 70 years ago, were taken by Jo’s late father Jim Newman.

We are grateful to Jo for allowing us to share them and hope you enjoy looking through some scenes that many will instantly recognise, but others less so.
