Major train services at Watford and Bushey have been cut for six days next month due to railway upgrades.

Work is being done shortly before Christmas to the London Overground between Watford Junction and Euston and the Bakerloo line – with all their services cancelled for the duration.

It will take place between December 17 and December 23, with affected stations including Watford Junction, Watford High Street, Bushey, Carpenders Park and Hatch End.

Upgrades will see 6,000 modern concrete sleepers installed, slight station makeovers, cable replacements and power supply improvements.

Geoff Hobbs, director of public transport service planning for Transport for London, said: “We’re sorry for any disruption that Network Rail’s essential track renewal work will cause to our customers’ journeys and are working closely with them to minimise the impact.

“Closures of this type enable work to be carried out which will make customer journeys more reliable in future and are scheduled to take place, where possible, in school holidays when demand on our network is significantly reduced.”
