A crash is causing heavy delays across parts of south west Hertfordshire, including Watford, this evening (November 23).
Two lanes out of four were closed on the M1 southbound just before junction 6A for the M25.
It has led to queues in both directions on the M1 as well as on the M25 and dual carriageways in the St Albans area.
National Highways says the police, paramedics, firefighters, and traffic officers were all called to the crash between junction 7 for St Albans (A414) and 6A.
All lanes reopened at around 5.45pm but the disruption caused by the crash could take some time to clear.
Delays on the M1 southbound are said to be 45 minutes and back towards junction 10 for Luton Airport.
All vehicles involved in this collision on the #M1 southbound between J7 #A414 #StAlbans and J6a #M25 in #Hertfordshire have been moved to the hard shoulder. All lanes have been re-opened. There remains long delays of approximately 45 mins and 7 miles of congestion. pic.twitter.com/UFhnsYbVrS

Northbound, there are queues from just before junction 5 for Watford as drivers presumably slow to see what is happening on the opposite carriageway.
The M25 has also been affected in both directions approaching junction 21 for the M1, as drivers queue on the slip roads to join the M1 north, approaching the crash scene.
Also impacted is the A414 from London Colney towards the Park Street roundabout and the A405 in sections between Bricket Wood and Chiswell Green.
Drivers should leave extra time if traveling in the area.
