Nearly £2,000 worth of gifts were donated to The Salvation Army in Watford to help families in need this Christmas.

A car full of donations were given to the charity after Craig O’Toole, founder of health and fitness club ManAlive in Watford and Radlett, asked members and their families to take part.

He said: “I am so impressed with the way our members have pulled together this Christmas to help support our local community.

“With the current climate as it is it is even more important now than ever before to extend a hand to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

“We were extremely proud to be able to take such a large donation to The Salvation Army and hope that it makes a difference.”

Mr O’Toole thinks the donation is worth an estimated £2,000 and also includes toys.

The delivery was made last week after Mr O’Toole spent the month of November organising the appeal.

During challenging times ManAlive has seen more than generous donations come in from the community they have built around their fitness business.

Extending this out to its members’ families, friends and colleagues they have seen a ground-breaking number of donations arrive to make Christmas a little bit easier for those in need.

The Salvation Army supports local families that find themselves in hardship over the festive period, providing new unwrapped gifts as well as a warm and welcoming place to come and feel at home.

This winter it is opening its doors to anyone who is struggling to heat their home.

On Wednesdays from 3.30pm to 6pm, families are welcome to join its homework club.

The charity will have free wi-fi and stationery and jacket potatoes can be bought for 50p with toppings.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

And for anyone looking to find a co-working space, they will be available every Thursday from 10am to 2pm, including wi-fi, charging points and free coffee.

Both warm hubs are held at 376a St Albans Road, Watford, WD24 6PJ.
