Police have re-appealed for information after a great-grandfather was hit by a car and died in Watford.

Robert ‘Bob’ Clewley, 71, was struck by a black Toyota Yaris on the A405 in Garston, at the junction of Bucknalls Lane, at around 5.50pm on Friday, December 2.

The driver, a woman in her 20s, was not injured and stayed at the scene, and has been helping officers with their enquiries.

Today (December 12), Detective Constable Dale Morris said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Clewley at this difficult time.

“The incident occurred during a busy time on a Friday evening with people travelling in the area. As we continue to investigate the circumstances of what happened I would again appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage of it, or from the area around the time, to get in touch.”

Information can be reported via 101 or by emailing dale.morris@herts.police.uk.

Following the crash Mr Clewley’s family said in a statement: “Our much-loved dad, Bob, leaves behind a brother, five children, nine grandchildren and a newly born great granddaughter.

“He was a true gentleman and would always help anybody, nothing was too much trouble.

“A London black cab driver for well over 30 years, he was well respected amongst his wide circle of friends. 'Top of the world Bob' was a Chelsea fan and kept everyone entertained with his expert analysis and continuous stream of jokes and stories.

“This is a huge loss for us and for everyone that knew him. We'll never know anyone like him again, RIP Dad.”
