A much-loved residents association was saved at the last minute after fears were raised that it could close for good.

An urgent announcement was made calling for people to join the Meriden Residents Association, based in Watford, as it was set to fall below the required quota of five committee members.

But during its annual general meeting held on Tuesday, January 10, enough people came forward and the organisation now has seven committee members.

Its chairman Steve Moss said: “It’s a lovely feeling and we can now spread the work around.”

He added: “The work we do is important, we work with charities in the area and are trying to support people with the cost-of-living crisis.”

The association also put on a fair at the community centre for free at Christmas.

The committee can take up to ten members and is always looking for more volunteers.

Mr Moss said: “All people need is enthusiasm and a willingness to roll up their sleeves and help in any way they can.”
