A woman said she saw a man with what looked like a “weapon” as she likened the commotion on her street to a movie scene.

Police were called to Brixton Road, Watford, at 1.15am yesterday (January 12) to reports of a group of males shouting in the street before fleeing.

Officers attended and discovered that several cars – what looked like five – had been damaged.

One witness who lives on the road, but did not want to be named, said: “There was a loud noise outside and I could hear shouting on the street.

“I looked outside and saw three men. I couldn’t see their faces – they were wearing hoodies.

“And there was a large black van that did not have a number plate.”

She described the men shouting, knocking on people’s doors and running down the road.

“Then I realised one of the guys was grabbing a very long stick – like a weapon, but it was very dark at that time.”

She added: “It was pretty scary. It was like something you see in the movies. To see all these men dressed the same and the black van – that was the scariest image I remember.”

Later, four police cars turned up, but the men had already disappeared, she said.

The woman said she is now worried about living on the road, adding: “I had never thought I was not safe until then.

“Now, I am a bit warier when leaving my home.”

Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed that officers searched the area and an abandoned vehicle, which is suspected to have left the area following the incident, was recovered.

Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances around what happened and trace those involved.
