A mum has hailed the "amazing" improvement in her son's mental health after school bullies previously left him suicdal.

In January, a woman claimed that Croxley Danes School in Rickmansworth was not doing enough to prevent the problem.

However, she has recently told the Watford Observer there has since been a positive change from the school and students.

She said: “It’s amazing. One child sat next to him and said sorry.

“And two parents contacted me to say they think it might be their child bullying my son.”

The mother, who we have chosen not to name, added that the school is helping by doing a referral to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

However, she was disappointed when one of the teachers suggested she needed parenting courses.

“I said, go for it. I’ve already done nine courses and it does not work because there is only so much I can do at home. The school is meant to help.

“When I said my piece they dismissed the idea,” she said.

But most importantly, things have improved for her son.

She said: “The mental health side of things have changed for him.

“Instead of lying in bed depressed and crying himself to sleep, he seems more upbeat, and I hope things keep going in the right direction.”

Going to the press was a last resort for the mum.

She said: “Since the article, it has opened so many people’s eyes to the severity of what physical and mental bullying can do.

“I think a lot of children say things and they don’t realise the repercussions of their words.”

But for the mum, after seeing the impact the bullying had on her son, she is still nervous for the future.

She said: “I’m always on tenterhooks, just in case.”

A spokesperson for the school said the welfare of its students is extremely important and takes bullying very seriously.

They added: “Key staff will always work to make sure students feel safe and supported at our school.

“In the case of this student, we’re pleased that they and their family have seen the situation significantly improve.”
