A grandmother living with incurable breast cancer will soon be strutting down the catwalk in a fashion show.

Lorraine Jonas, 72, from Bushey will take part in the Breast Cancer Now show on April 20 along with others living with or beyond the disease.

Since Lorraine was chosen to take part in The Show, she has been fundraising for the charity and raised more than £4,000.

Lorraine, a mother of three and grandmother of five, said: “I have never taken part in anything like it before, it’s way out of my comfort zone but I’m so excited to take to the catwalk.

“Despite my cancer diagnoses I have never been one to sit back and say “poor me” - and my life continues at a fast pace – enjoying retirement and family time.”

Lorraine was first diagnosed with breast cancer at 46 in 1996 and underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and started taking tamoxifen.

But 10 years later at 56 she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the left breast again and she had to undergo chemotherapy, needed a mastectomy and had lymph nodes removed.

She said: “Throughout my cancer experience my family and friends have been amazing, supporting me every step of the way.

“The chemo times were very tough, and I was very sick, as well as losing my hair twice.

“Going through chemo once was bad enough but getting through it the second time was even tougher, as I knew what to expect.”

Sadly, in January 2021 Lorraine received her third breast cancer diagnosis as well as being told she had bladder and urachal cancer and had to have two operations to remove the tumours.

She has started cancer treatment for a third time to prevent it spreading but it will never be cured.

Lorraine said: “For 26 years cancer and I have had a relationship with lots of ups and downs, but I have been blessed with a very positive mental attitude.

“Breast Cancer Now is a charity close to my heart because they have helped me throughout my cancer experience.

“They offer support, guidance and more importantly, research into finding a cure for breast cancer.”
