One Vision's founder Enoch Kanagaraj has been welcomed at Number 10 in recognition of his charity work.

Watford MP Dean Russell invited the "community champion" to London's most famous address for an event organised by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's office last Thursday.

It was organised to celebrate people who make constituencies across the country a better place to live and work.

The visit came a week after Mr Russell joined Mims Davies MP, minister for social mobility, youth and progression, in a visit to One Vision to meet their senior team and volunteers.

“I am humbled and honoured to be nominated as a community champion by our local MP Dean Russell at Number 10 Downing Street," said Mr Kanagaraj, who is also the Watford-based charity's chief executive.

He added: "I am proud of representing Watford and I am just so pleased the One Vision charity has been able to help many people in Watford. I would not be here at without the support of the volunteers, family and friends.”

MPs were invited to nominate a community champion and Mr Russell put forward Enoch Kanagaraj, who he introduced to the Prime Minister during their visit.

Speaking after the event Mr Russell said: “It was a wonderful opportunity to bring together community champions from across the UK and give us a chance to thank them for the enormous contribution they make to the communities we represent.

"It was a pleasure to be able to bring Enoch to Number 10, I don’t think there is a day when he is not doing something to help those around him. He is always willing to help whoever asks and does not seek recognition or praise.

"On behalf of Watford I would like to thank Enoch for all of the fantastic work that he does through One Vision and its various initiatives.”

One Vision launched in August 2018 to provide practical support to vulnerable individuals and families. In doing so it brings together different cultural backgrounds to address the needs of the Watford community.

Services and initiatives have been run by One Vision to tackle food poverty, mental health issues, social marginalisation and youth needs.

Speaking about the visit by Mims Davies MP, Mr Kanagaraj said: "It is great for minister Mims Davies MP to see and hear about the excellent work One Vision has been doing in Watford and beyond.

"I am so glad to have the opportunity to discuss about the benefits of young people volunteering and how to attract young people to volunteer. We also discussed about One Vision Community connectors programmme"

Mr Russell added: "It was a pleasure to welcome the Minister to Watford today. I have worked very closely with One Vision since the start of the pandemic on number of their important initiatives, and I was delighted that they had the opportunity to show the Minister how much they achieved in recent years.

"One Vision has done some really great work in preventing food waste and also supporting people through the cost-of-living crisis."
