Two sisters held a party for their loyal customers who have supported their Watford hair salon for 40 years.

Hair Connections by Andrea of Wembley, in Market Street, put on drinks and a finger buffet for regulars on Wednesday, April 26.

Co-owner Carol Andrea told the Watford Observer it was an event to remember.

She said: “It was so wonderful. We had such a huge response from our clients, some of whom started coming when they were in their 30s and are now in their 70s.

“The atmosphere was incredible, and everyone was chatting together.”

As a thank you, guests received a gift that included some flower seeds, a small candle and a chocolate bar.

The salon originally opened in Charter Place in 1977, but it had to move nine years ago when the area was being regenerated.

Ms Andrea, who runs the hairdresser with her sister Sophie Andreou, said: “It’s so rewarding to have customers for so long, it feels like family to us.”

The salon’s oldest customer is Joy, 87, who first attended 40 years ago when it opened.

Ms Andrea said: “I often say to her, I hope I am like you when I get to your age.”

She explained the shop has customers who come in every Friday for their blow dry “and have got to know each other over the years and have a chat”.

It’s these customers that Ms Andrea believes have been a big help to the salon during the cost-of-living crisis.

She said: “It’s incredible. The older generation do not miss their appointment. Come rain or snow they are here every week.”

And while the store was always successful, the Market Street location has helped the business grow with passing trade.

The name of the shop might throw people, but it is rooted in its first location of Wembley when the sisters’ father had a hairdresser there 60 years ago, which has now closed.

But the fun will not stop with this party. The sisters plan to hold another celebration next year to mark the 10-year anniversary of being in their second Watford location.
