Hi, my name’s Lupin and I’m a two-year-old Malinois cross looking for a loving home. I came to the National Animal Welfare Trust as a stray six weeks ago.
The team here tell me I’m extremely handsome but please don't be put off by my scars, which may have come from being tied up. I haven't had a good start to life, but I still really love people. This means when I want to say hello to someone and can't get there, I pull towards them and try to mouth my handler. It's just because I don't know how to cope with the frustration. Lots of calm, reward-based training will help me with this.
I can live with older teenagers who are big enough to not be knocked over by me if I get boisterous. They’ll need to take part in my training so must be prepared to put the work in as I need consistency from everyone in the home. I enjoy playing with other dogs, so could live with another dog if we got on at the centre, but cats would be scared of me.
I’m not used to being on my own and can be destructive if left. So to begin with I need someone around all the time to help me settle in and teach me how to cope with being alone. I’ll also need lots of positive, reward-based training in loose-lead walking, polite greeting and keeping four paws on the floor. And a large, secure garden so I can run around and burn off some energy!
If you’re looking for a lovely, happy boy, email reception@nawt.org.uk or call 0208 950 0177 (option 2) so we can meet.
