Hi there! My name’s Phoenix and I’m a five-year-old Akita Husky mix who’s looking for a new home.

I came into the National Animal Welfare Trust as a stray in May so the team here don't know anything about my past. What they’ve learnt since I’ve been here is that I’m a very loving lad who really enjoys a fuss and a cuddle! I’ve really come out of my shell recently. Before I didn't show much interest in toys but now I love lying down with a cuddly toy to chew.

Sometimes I try to escape my harness so the team have ordered me a new one to make sure I can't do this. I shouldn’t be allowed on any furniture in my new home, as I get overexcited and start to mouth people.

I need an adult-only home with owners who’ll read my body language and understand when I want some space. At the moment I’m learning the polite way to approach other dogs, rather than rush in, which can upset them. I’m desperate to have a friend though, so could live with another dog if we got on here at the rescue centre and during a home visit. I’ve met some cats here and haven't shown any interest in them, so I could even live with a cat in my new home if we’re introduced in the right way.

I’ve shown that I’m not used to being left on my own so I’ll need there to be someone around all the time at first so they can teach me how to cope with being alone gradually.

I need lots of reward-based training in things such as loose-lead walking as I pull a bit. I’ve tried (and succeeded!) to chew a fabric lead so for safety I’m currently walked on a chain lead.

If you’re looking for a loveable boy like me, then apply for me today! Email reception@nawt.org.uk or call 0208 950 0177 (option 2).
