A council has objected to a proposal to build an adult day service facility.

Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) wants to knock down The Northwick Day Centre in Northwick Road, South Oxhey, because it claims it is unsuitable for current and future requirements.

In its place, HCC would build a new centre on the site of the former Sir James Altham School site and former Homeoaks Group Home on land to the east of Lytham Avenue in South Oxhey.

However, the Three Rivers District (TRD) Council, which South Oxhey is in, has objected to the scheme.

TRD said: “The development results in the loss of an allocated housing site within a district which does not have the homes required to meet the needs of its residents over the plan period.”

It added that HCC has not presented any material that “outweigh the significant harm from the loss of the allocated housing site”.

A spokesperson for HCC said: “We will be contacting the Three Rivers District Council planning team to discuss their objection to the planning application.”

The service is for adults with physical and learning disabilities, mental health problems and age-related conditions.

If approved, the internal area of the building will be 731.43 m2.
