A disabled woman claims she has been left housebound in Maple Cross after a botched ramp was installed by her housing association.

Thrive Homes completed the work in Horselys on Wednesday, October 18, but Gina Halls said that after making the slope too steep the company has failed to fix it.

The 77-year-old claims she feels "trapped", as she relies on a mobility scooter and suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure.

She said: "I am not sure what to do as I cannot leave my house. If it gets icy, the area will be very dangerous and could cause another injury.

"I need the ramp to help me in everyday life. I am now struggling a lot and there is no other way to reach my home unless you go on the grass, which is a struggle with the scooter."

Since the work was done, Mrs Halls claims her leg was injured when her daughter was forced to pull her up onto the front garden ramp.

She added: “All I want is a decent job to be done, it is very steep and very unsafe. I don’t know what to do as I am now stuck in my house.

“I have breathing problems and can't pull myself up the ramp. I have rung Thrive Homes multiple times but nothing has been done yet.”

According to Mrs Halls, the cement at the bottom has also already crumbled.

Mrs Halls added: "They just don't care about anyone these days. It is unfair."

According to Mrs Halls, Thrive Homes is yet to come and repair the work but has told her "they will look into it".

A Thrive Homes spokesperson said: “Due to adverse weather conditions last week, the ramp modifications were unable to be made. The works are due to commence again tomorrow and one of our surveyors is in direct contact with the customer.”
