The Watford Volunteer Police Cadets have shown their teamwork at local community events since meeting just three months ago.

The group first met in mid-September and consists of 16 young people aged between 13 and 18 years old.

On their first outing, they represented Hertfordshire at the Volunteer Police Cadets sports day and 5k colour run, managing to win 17 medals within only a day of knowing each other.Watford Observer: The young cadets won 17 medals at the Volunteer Police Cadets sports day and colour run.The young cadets won 17 medals at the Volunteer Police Cadets sports day and colour run. The young cadets also marched on parade at a Remembrance Day event in Watford town centre and two members were invited to march a lap of honour during half-time at the Watford vs Rotherham football match.

The group meets every week to learn about policing practices and social issues, and studied hate crimes during National Hate Crime Awareness Week in October.Watford Observer: The Watford police cadets during Hate Crime Awareness Week. The Watford police cadets during Hate Crime Awareness Week. Watford cadet leader Stephanie May said: “I am really impressed with how well the cadets have come together and bonded.

"I am also extremely proud of how they have conducted themselves at some of our big events, including the Remembrance parade."

May says the Volunteer Cadet group is a great opportunity for any young person interested in the police or just looking for a new hobby.
