This photo of housing in a Watford road dates back a century – and it has two mystery prices written on the back.

The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at a row of houses in Sussex Road.

The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This stretch of houses is in Sussex Road. The photograph was taken in 1922 for one of the council's departments.

“On the reverse there are two figures - £16.15s and £13.10s - but no more information is given to explain what they relate to!

“There have been several phases of house building in the road, the earliest being around the 1900s. Before this, was farmland and in the 1840s, this area was known as the upper part of Apple Tree Field.”
