Tributes have been paid to a "kind and caring" grandmother who died on New Year's Eve after being hit by a vehicle.

Teresa Hambridge, 71, was involved in a collision when crossing the road in the Fleetville area of St Albans on December 1. She was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, and passed away from her injuries on Sunday, December 31.

"We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of the nurses and doctors at the hospital for the first-class care she received," read a tribute from her family.

"She was an extremely kind and caring person who always put others before herself. She was a wonderful wife, a caring sister, a dedicated and loving mother, and a besotted grandmother.

"Teresa enjoyed her career as teaching assistant at Beaumont Secondary School, where she is fondly remembered. She was a gifted artist, attending various local art groups over the years, and had a deep love of nature and animals.

"Her family and friends meant everything to her, and she will be very sorely missed by them all.

"Teresa’s funeral will take place on Thursday, February 8 at 10am at St Alban and St Stephen Catholic Church, AL1 3RB."
