Police have appealed for information following a five-car crash in Bushey that killed a man in his 60s.

The driver of a Vauxhall Astra was pronounced dead at the scene after the collision on the A41 near Bushey, at around 7.30am on Friday, February 2.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by police officers.

Two other people were taken to hospital for further treatment.

Police have now said five vehicles were involved: a bronze Vauxhall Astra, silver Honda Jazz, silver Chevrolet Orlando, a blue Ford Focus and a white Mercedes GLC.

A driver, who did not see the crash but claims to have witnessed the aftermath, reported what appeared to be a "head-on" collision south of the Sandy Lane junction that left the front of one car badly damaged.

They said it also looked like it involved a third car crashing into the back of another.

The road remained shut both ways for several hours between Sandy Lane and the Elstree roundabout, with additional road closures at the junctions of Sandy Lane, Dagger Lane and Hillfield Lane South.

Four fire engines and the East of England Ambulance Service attended, who sent a Hazardous Area Response Team, two ambulances, an ambulance officer vehicle and two rapid response vehicles.

Information can be reported to police by emailing craig.wheeler@herts.police.uk, or calling non-emergency number 101, quoting Op Tuello.
