Watford pensioners are being urged to apply for Pension Credit to receive a £300 cost of living payment.

Citizens Advice Watford is calling on eligible residents to submit their applications by Tuesday, March 5.

Doing so could provide them with a cost-of-living payment of £299.

The charity highlighted the application window as residents may not be aware there is still an opportunity to gain the payment.

Emma Burgham, chief officer at Citizens Advice Watford, said: "The Government is making a cost-of-living payment but people not claiming Pension Credit will not only miss out on the benefit, but also this extra support on top.

"The main thing, if in doubt, is to apply.

"People can come to us if they have any questions, but they don’t have a huge amount of time."

More information can be found directly from the Government's website or contacting Citizens Advice Watford on 0800 144 8848 or via their website.

Last year, national figures revealed 850,000 eligible households missed out on a combined total of £1.8bn as they didn't claim the Pension Credit.

Eligibility for Pension Credit includes reaching State Pension age, having a non-excessive income or savings, and residing in the UK.

It can bolster yearly income by more than £3,500 on average and unlike the State Pension, there's no need for a national insurance record.

It can also be backdated for three months.

Consequently, applications made before March 5 could potentially receive a third cost-of-living payment.

The tax-free cost-of-living payment isn't separately applied for.

It is directly paid to those who were Pension Credit recipients between November 13, 2023, and December 12, 2023.
