Ukrainian families and their hosts in Watford will observe the second anniversary of Ukraine's conflict with emotional tributes.

Events are planned today and tomorrow  to recognise this sombre moment in time.

Today's plans include a 5pm flag raising at the Town Hall, led by deputy mayor Cllr Aga Dychton, and a candlelight vigil organised by the Sunflower Social Club.

On Saturday, elected mayor Peter Taylor, Luther Blissett OBE DL and guests from the Sunflower Social Club will speak from 10am, paying tribute to those who have lost their lives and continue to be effected by conflicted.

Ukraine's war has claimed thousands of lives as civilians defended their country, while millions of others have been displaced.

More than 174,000 refugees have settled in the UK via the Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme.

Elected Mayor Peter Taylor said: "I'm really thankful to the families in Watford who've welcomed Ukrainian residents during this tough period.

"Luther Blissett and Lauren Fox have put in a lot of effort to support Ukrainians, and the events they have hosted at both St Mary’s Church and the Sunflower Social Club have been a source of joy for many."

Watford's community is invited to join Friday and Saturday's commemorations in solidarity with Ukrainian residents.
