Sue Ryder's Watford shop is set to celebrate its 50th birthday by putting a signed Luther Blissett football shirt up for auction and in-store savings.

The charitable retailer, located on Langley Road, is treating customers to 20 per cent off most items from March 18 to 20.

Additionally, a Watford FC training top, autographed by Hornets legend, Luther Blissett, will be available for public bidding also from March 18 to 22.

Blissett is the club's record holder for both most appearances and goals with 503 games and 186 goals respectively.

The highest bidder will claim the unique piece, with all proceeds channelled towards Sue Ryder hospices, palliative care hubs, and bereavement services.

Tina Sorrell, Langley Road shop manager said: "We have enjoyed a fantastic 50 years of business here in Watford, raising over two million pounds in that time and decided the best way to celebrate was to hold a fun and vibrant birthday event to thank customers and donors and launch our three-day discount.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all staff past and present who have contributed to the success of the shop and to our dedicated volunteers, who we simply couldn’t operate without.

"We look forward to welcoming even more customers to the shop going forward and hope that our success continues."

Kicking off the celebrations on Monday, March 18, the shop which opened its doors in 1974, will host a birthday event from 2pm to 4pm.

Shoppers will be indulged with cake, sweet treats, nostalgic tales, and memorable recollections of the shop's history.

Historical accounts will be narrated by renowned local historian, Stephen Danzig, along with past and current staff and volunteers of the store.
