A Bushey car dealership and greengrocers could be demolished to be replaced with 25 homes and a “well-known” food shop chain, according to new proposals.

The redevelopment plans for 6-18 High Road, Bushey Heath, were announced by Stanmore-based property developer Nacropolis ahead of a public exhibition on Wednesday, March 20.

It would see the Bushey Heath Garage and four neighbouring homes, one of which houses Andrew’s greengrocers, replaced by a mixed-use three-storey building and 25-space customer car park.

Nacropolis Managing Director Ravi Pankhania said: “As a long-time local resident of Bushey Heath, I am delighted to bring forward these exciting plans for a high quality food store and much needed new homes.

“Nacropolis has been working for some time with a well-known major British high street retailer, to ensure the store meets their requirements, as well as those of local residents.

“We have plans to make extra space at the front of the building for environmental improvements, which include new trees and planting to brighten up and improve sustainability.

“We would encourage local residents to take part in our consultation event, either online or by visiting our public exhibition.”

An unnamed “well-known major British high street” brand would move into the ground floor unit, which developers said has been designed to meet their requirements.

Above the shop, 12 one-bedroom and 13 two-bedroom “high quality” apartments would be built across two floors with private balconies and a communal rooftop garden.

Residents would have access to a private basement car park with space for each property and storage for 38 bicycles.

Nacropolis said it expects the new homes will be attractive to people from the area who want to remain living in Bushey.

The property developer also claimed the plans would “bring new life” to the area and attract new footfall, which would help to “keep it as an attractive shopping centre”.

The design would feature traditional brick gables to enhance its location and its height would reflect the neighbouring buildings.

It also claimed the proposals would improve on the current garage site, which it said was dominated by a large car park and signage.

Residents can view the plans at the Niland Conference Centre, 93 Elstree Road, Bushey Heath, on Wednesday, March 20, between 2pm and 7pm.
