Recap after West Herts College evacuated over 'hoax bomb'

Our live feed has now finished.

  • West Herts College, in Hempstead Road, was evacuated this afternoon (March 12).
  • A police cordon was put in place "as a precaution" and officers were at the scene.
  • Motorists were advised to find alternative travel routes due to congestion in the area.
  • The college had received anonymous messages suggesting an explosive device had been placed somewhere on the site.
  • A systematic search of the site did not find any such device and the reports are "being treated as a hoax".
  • Students and staff have been allowed to return inside.
