Tesco shoppers in Watford could help donate £5k for three local children's groups on Saturday.

Little Reddings Primary School, 7th Oxhey Methodist Guides, and Croxley Green Scout Group, could all benefit from the scheme.

Participating stores will provide customers with the chance to take part in a lucky dip from 12 noon to 1pm, where a customer could find a golden version of Tesco's blue voting tokens.

If they are fortunate to find a gold token, shoppers can nominate one of the three local organisations for a £5,000 Golden Grant.

Claire De Silva, head of communities for Tesco, said: "Right now, £5,000 can make a massive difference to a school or community project and help them give children a stronger start in life.

"Our Stronger Starts campaign has already funded so many groups and schools right across the UK and we can’t wait to see what these Golden Tokens can do in more communities across the country.

"We’re giving customers who visit these 100 stores the chance to make a difference to a school or group that’s doing amazing work on their doorstep."

Golden Grants, awarded twice per year, fall under Tesco's £5m Stronger Starts initiative.

The programme is a partnership with Groundwork UK and is designed to support children's physical health and mental wellbeing.

Funding can be used for a variety of purposes, such as purchasing equipment, healthy foods like breakfast snacks, or promoting healthy activities.

Schools and children's groups interested in applying for a grant can visit tescoplc.com/strongerstarts and submit an application.

Successful applications will subsequently go up for a public vote at local Tesco stores, with customers using the blue tokens to cast their vote.
